Newtown Nissan Cwmbran entry deadline

The closing date for entries to the Newtown Nissan Cwmbran tournament is the 27th February, just two weeks away. Newtown Motors Nissan is confirmed as the main sponsor, continuing their long term support of Badminton in Wales. With leading sport supplements company FA Nutrition providing £75 worth of prizes for each event winner.

The organisers Newport Badminton Club are the leading tournament organisers in Wales for the competitive Senior Satellite Series. Newport Badminton Club Chairman Mark Thomas said, "this is a great tournament for club and county players, or those playing in University teams." He continued, "Cwmbran is easy to get to and offers a great venue badminton, me guarantee 3 games so your entry is value for money". Neil Williams, Sales Manager at Newtown Motors commented, "Newtown Motors have supported Newport Badminton Club since they started running the tournaments, which pay for coaching of the Junior Club". He continued, "we are keen to see local community groups such as Newport Badminton Club make a difference and create an opportunity for youngsters to engage with the badminton."

The tournament is open to all club, county and country badminton players from Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland. Importantly for many Welsh competitors it is a Badminton Wales ranking event for the Welsh Satellite Series, which attracts many of the top players. Starting at 9am on Sunday 6th March in the newly refurbished Cwmbran Leisure Centre with men’s singles, the event will continue all day. The finals of the men’s, ladies’, doubles and mixed being held late afternoon, with visitors and spectators welcome. Download a form on the Newtown Nissan Event page or enter online at Tournament Software, entries close on the 27th February.

At the last Newport Nissan tournament winner of the Men’s singles was Chris Evans and Gean Sou Mo taking with Women’s singles title. The highly contested Men’s doubles was won by Fiach O’Rourke & Chris Evans, with Hannah Littlecot & Sophie Trerise winning the Women’s title. Finally, John Hepworth and Hannah Littlecot won the mixed title in a three set thriller. All winners received a £100 of prizes including a stack of sports nutrition products from FA Nutrition and Babolat clothing from Maurice Robinson Sports.
