badminton wales welcomes new chair

Badminton Wales welcomes Peter Hybart as the new Chair.

At its meeting on 13th July 2022 the Badminton Wales Board unanimously elected Peter Hybart to be the new Chair of the National Governing Body, following the decision of Catherine McCluskey to step down due to increasing work commitments. Following his appointment Peter stated:

‘I am honoured to assume the role of Chair of Badminton Wales and thank the Board for the trust and confidence they have shown in me. I’d like to thank Cath McCuskey for guiding us through difficult Covid times and also Kerry-Ann Sheppard for doing so much work in establishing the current governance and staffing of Badminton Wales.

Having put so many building blocks in place, the opportunity now exists for the Board and Staff to focus on developing badminton in Wales so we safeguard the sport for future generations. This will require growing, guiding and supporting the badminton family in Wales, through outstanding service to our volunteers. There is a lot of work to do but these are exciting times and I look forward to working with fellow Directors, our CEO Kelly Aston MBE OLY and our small staffing team in driving the growth of badminton in Wales.

My family has a long association with Badminton Wales through my mother Maureen working tirelessly as the organisation’s first employed Secretary and Development Officer in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Both my sister Claire and I are proud to be former Senior Welsh Internationals.

Professionally I have over twenty-five years experience in developing sport having successfully held positions with Sport Wales, Tennis Wales and Cricket Wales, the latter two as Chief Executive Officer. Through all these roles I have developed a strong reputation and relationships with Sport Wales, the Welsh Government and the voluntary sector. I look forward to continuing to pass on my leadership, business and sports development experience to the benefit of badminton throughout Wales’
