Performance Manager and National Coach, Matthew Hughes, gives us an update on the considerable changes that have taken place regarding Badminton Wales performance:
recent months there has been a considerable focus towards developing a
performance driven player pathway, which represents the new vision for the future
of Badminton Wales.
Wales are pleased to announce that the restructure is underway with our
Regional Academy due to open early September in Cardiff. The Regional Academies
will be replacing our current Development Group structure. The national roll
out will continue in the coming months through to North and West Wales. Player
profiling for the new Regional Academy is well underway having held the most recent
fitness tests and player reviews. Selected players will benefit from regular
and structured training including a balanced tournament program supplemented by
a comprehensive strength and conditioning program underpinned by physiotherapy
support provided by Sport Wales.
We will be
publishing full details and a consultation process in the near future. It’s a
hugely exciting time for Badminton Wales with numerous new initiatives to be
rolled out in the coming months."
