Badminton Wales endeavours to run an annual Coaches Conference with outside speakers invited to talk about a range of coaching activities.
2013 Coaches Conference
The 2013 Coaches Conference was held at Deeside College on Sunday 16th June where 12 enthusiastic North Wales coaches enjoyed an active day. Top Scottish Coaches Diana Koleva and Julie Hogg spent the day on movement skills for young junior players. The coaches were “encouraged” to try out all of the exercises themselves and to involve themselves with the players who attended to help out.
The 2010 Badminton Wales Coaches Conference took place on Saturday June 5th at the Sport Wales National Centre, Cardiff where the speaker was Martin Andrew, GB and BE Junior High Performance Coach.
Martin's theme was based on developing young players, and drew very much on his work with Badminton England talent players.
Martin's presentation is available here.
The 2009 Badminton Wales Coaches Conference took place on Saturday June 6th at the Sport Wales National Centre, Cardiff where the speaker was Tom Reidy, the Swedish U19 National Coach.
Tom looked at cutting edge practices centred on preparing young players for the next level of play / practice and gave coaches best practice tools to use in their coaching. Tom also discussed in depth technical, mental and physical elements as well as relationships with parents of young players.
The programme, which is very current in Scandanavia, is aimed at players aged 11-15 and how to get them ready for the age group 15 years + and also involves many new exercises to improve strength and injury prevention.
