Day Two- Victor Welsh International 2018

Day two of the tournament started with two three setters immediately on Court two, with both Dolan/Naing and Hammarberg/King going all the way. Number one seed Spanish Penalver came back from a lost first set to win 14-21, 21-11, 21-10.

As the men’s doubles got underway, there were mixed results for Wales. William Kitching and Andrew Oates beat their English opponents in two sets 21-19, 21-17. Martyn Lewis was similarly successful with his English partner David Hong, beating English Law and Taylor 21-17, 21-9 in two sets. There were, however, some losses. Welsh Chong and Victor were defeated by English Flynn and Hemming, and their compatriots Jones and Strange were also knocked out by English Clare and Roe. Scott Oates and Nichols Strange lost to King and Parsons in the first round.

Welsh number one Jordan Hart played a close match against Sara Boyle, succeeding after three sets 21-12, 15-21, 21-14, and continues onto the next round. Lisa Curtin continues her winning ways after knocking out the younger Hart yesterday, beating Portuguese Leite 21-10, 21-19 in two sets. Number one seed Gayle Mahulette wins comfortably against English Teh 21-16, 21-8 to progress to the next round. Last year’s winner conceded to Amalie Kudsk due to a knee injury after less than one game.
