Yesterday saw the Team Event of the U15 Quadrangular 2016 commence and Welsh hopes were high.

The order of play was determined by last years results so Wales's first match was up against reigning champions Scotland. The players went out and gave 100% effort but Scotland were too strong for the Welsh team and despite some great fighting spirit and Wales lost their first match 0 - 9.

Next up was England, who always have a strong team. Again the Welsh players fought hard but no wins followed. Morgan Harding who played second Boys Singles managed to take the first set 22-20 but couldn't convert the second set and ended up losing 17 - 21, 10 - 21. The final score of the match was again 0 - 9.

After a team meeting and pep talk from coach Nic Strange the players were ready and raring to go for their final match against Ireland. The players got off to a perfect start winning both the Boy's Doubles, Oliver Stansfield and Morgan Harding fended off Adam Barry and Mark Kinerk to win 21-14, 22-24, 21-19 while Dafydd Price and Michael Pritchard defeated Evan Byrne and Daniel O'Mere 21-19, 21-15. Unfortunately the Girls could not follow suit in their Doubles where both pairs lost in straight sets making the score Wales 2, Ireland 2.  Oliver Stansfield and Morgan Harding both took to the Singles court determined to take Wales in to the lead and both players did just that by winning their matches in straight sets.  Next up were Aimie Whiteman and Lowri Hart in their Girls Singles, but Ireland fought back and managed to level the match score 4 - 4.  And so the deciding game for the match was the Mixed Doubles. Iwan Price and Kelly Yip stepped out on to court with a great focus and determination but sadly it was not meant to be for Wales as the final score was 4 - 5.

Coach Nic Strange said; "The team performed well in what has been a very strong competition. England and Scotland are always difficult due to their strength in depth but the attitude and passion shown by all the players was exceptional. It was a shame to lose to Ireland in such a close match overall but again all the players gave 100% throughout".
