Last week saw both the North and South Wales Top Schools Regionals take place at SWNC, Cardiff and Glyndwr University Sports Centre, Wrexham. The top three teams from each event will be invited back for the Top Schools National Finals on February 7th 2017 to be held at Aberystwyth University.

South Wales

Each of the 10 courts in the main hall of the Sport Wales National Centre were filled with competitive play last Tuesday.
The Girls event saw Crickhowell and St Richard Gwyn A battling for Gold and Silver while Rhymney Comprehensive and St Richard Gwyn B fought it out for the third spot and a guarantee to make the Finals in February. Crickhowell dominated with all 4 girls in their team having represented Wales in the last couple of years. But in the Third/Fourth place play off Rhymney managed to hold their nerve to come out on top and secure themselves Bronze.

The Boys play offs were between Ysgol Gwynllyw and Chepstow B for third position. The boys offered a fantastic show for all to see with the overall result being decided by just one point with Chepstow B managing to take the second doubles match 21-20 to secure their place in the Finals.
Chepstow A faced Crickhowell High School in the Gold and Silver Medal Match. Both teams were filled with Welsh Squad players and put on a thrilling match. In the end it was double Gold for Crickhowell as they won the match 4 - 1.

With teams including past and preset Welsh Squad Players, some terrific battles took place on court and overall an enjoyable and exciting day was had by all competitors and spectators.
The final result for the Girls was an outstanding win for the undefeated Friars School (Bangor) followed in second place by Alun School A (Mold) and Alun School B in third place with Maes Garmon (Mold) finishing in fourth place.

In the Boys event, the talented Alun School A remained undefeated to take top spot, closely followed by Hawarden High School in second place. Maes Garmon boys managed to take third place leaving Friars School in fourth and Alun Schools' B Team in fifth.
