It was a great start to the season for Kelly Saunders and Emilie Gwilt this weekend as they took the gold medal at the Gloucester Senior Bronze event.

During the group stage they faced Daphne and Hester Luke of Cornwall, winning the encounter 21-12, 21-10 and later played against Wiltshire pair Megan Gibson and Emma McDonald, winning a close 2 set match 25-23, 23-21. In the semi-finals they met Nikita Smethurst and Lisa Stevens of Devon and triumphed 21-15, 15-21, 21-10 taking them through to the finals. The final saw the girls battle it out against the Berkshire/Gloucestershire pairing of Frances Penny and Emily Witham, eventually claiming victory in 3 sets 12-21, 21-15, 21-12.

Gwilt also played in the mixed event with Matthew Appleby. After finishing top of their group (by beating Leicestershire pair Stefan Roy and Sophie Rogers 21-13, 21-18 and Joseph Davies and Lisa Stevens of Devon 17-21, 21-15, 21-17) they then faced Sam Gordon and Ella Mountjoy of Lincolnshire in the semi finals. Unfortunately, Gordon and Mountjoy proved too strong on the day and won the 3 setter  21-17, 19-21, 21-13.
