North Wales Top

The North Wales Top Schools competition took place on Thursday the 7th of September at Glyndwr University in Wrexham. There was a fantastic turn out with nineteen teams taking part in the event from ten different schools. The standard of play in the competition was brilliant with lots of tough and competitive games taking place.

There were 3 groups of boys teams with the winners from each group being offered a place in the national finals in Newtown in March. The winning teams were Hawarden, Mold Alun and Brynhyfryd A. The teams then had to play each other to decide on the final positioning. Mold Alun played Brynhyfryd A beating them 5-0 putting Brynhyfryd in third place. The final was between Mold Alun and Hawarden, Hawarden proved to be a tough opponent and beat Mold 4-1 and securing victory in the North Finals.

The girl competition had 2 groups of teams. The winners and runners up played each other establishing who would be going through to the finals. Argoed and Mold Alun won both of their group and played each other in the final. The games were close but Mold proved to be the stronger team beating Argoed 4-1. The runners up of each group were Dinas Bran and Flint, resulting in a battle for third place. It was extremely competitive but Dinas Bran were a tough opponent and beat Flint 4-1 to take there place in the National Finals.

It was a great day with a lot of very talented players. I would like to thank all involved in the event and helping make it a great success again this year!!
