Nine students from the foundation degree course at the University of South Wales completed the Badminton Leadership Award (Sports Leaders UK) in Cwmbran Stadium. As the students had previously completed a Sports Leaders UK Leadership Award, they were only required to completed  Module 3, the badminton specific module, in order for them become a Badminton Leader.

The module covers badminton skills such as serving, feeding, forehand shots and backhand shots. The course also covers the rules of the game and playing singles and doubles matches.

All of the students thoroughly enjoyed the course.

They will now volunteer in school sessions, both primary and secondary, at festivals and competitions in the Torfaen area.

Lecturer David Woods commented,

“It’s good for the students to have the opportunity of receiving training in badminton as it develops their knowledge and broadens their employment opportunities in the future.”
