Newport Badminton Club has announced the launch of a new Junior Badminton Club in Newport to be held every Thursday at Pill Millennium Centre. The coaching sessions are 7.30 – 8.30pm and open to all abilities between the ages of 11 and 17, for just £2 per week, with the first session free. Equipment is provided so everyone is welcome to come along and try Badminton, or for those who can play we have one of Wales’ leading coaches.

Sponsors Newtown Motors Nissan have supported Newport Badminton, which has helped provide the financial stability needed to commit to providing a Junior Club. Together with grant funding from Newport Council and tournament revenue the club feels it has the resources necessary to deliver a leading junior development facility. Newport Badminton club also stated that a key partner in the project has been Babolat who have supported the equipment provision with rackets and shuttles.

Newport Badminton Club will be coached by well known Welsh badminton star Carissa Turner. Carissa is part of the current Welsh team and whilst she has a busy international schedule of tournaments will be committed to the Newport Badminton Club. As a player who consistently performs and has played at the highest level at events like the Commonweath Games, she will be an inspiration to the junior club members.

Newport Badminton Club Chairman Fiach O’Rourke said,

“I am delighted to announce the launch of Newport’s only junior badminton club and coaching. The club is looking to help foster the next generation of talent in Wales.”

He continued,

“We are particularly excited that Carissa Turner has agreed to be our coach as it's central to our remit to encourage more female participants to the sport.”
