Champions Crowned

The Additional Junior Nationals took place at USW Sport Park on Saturday the 10th of September where new and reigning National Champions were crowned. 

First up were the U11's and reigning Champion Saffron Morris retained her title and Sian Jones took home Silver. 

In the U11 Boys Singles both seeds went out in the first rounds to Harper Leigh and Llwyd Crump. Harper then lost out to Cade Rees in the Semi Finals while Llwyd Crump beat Amay Patil. Both Cump and Rees showed great determination and fight during the Final and whole tournament with Crump emerging as Champion.  In the Boys Doubles Final, brothers Amay and Eshaan Patil put up a good fight against Eli Owen and Owen Porter but eventually lost in two sets.

New Champions were crowned in both the U13 Boys and Girls Singles. 

The top seeds in each of the Singles disciplines made it to the Finals with Jasmine Owen justifying her no.1 seed placement fending off Freya Cottrill in two tough sets while Adil Khan caused an upset in the Boys Singles defeating Daniel Kite.  In the Boys Doubles, Khan & Kite paired up as first seeds while Thomas Morgan & Nabil Taufiqurrahman went in as second seeds. The pairs met in the Final and put on a thrilling three set match, Morgan & Taufiqurrahman could not maintain their stamina and Khan & Kite took the Championship title. 

In the Girls Doubles Freya Cottrill & Lydia Morris pulled through two three setters in both the Semi Final and Final to take home the title, beating Jasmine Owen & Maisie Kite 21-19 in the third set of the Final. Daniel Kite & Jasmine Owen showed great focus in the Mixed Doubles defeating Thomas Morgan & Lydia Morris 22-20. 24-22 in the Semi Final and then taking the second set of the Final 23-21 against Adil Khan & Saffron Morris.

Michael Pritchard dominated the U15 Boys Singles with only his Semi Finalist Archie Bult getting double digits from him.  Aimie Whiteman also dominated the Girls Singles winning her Final in single figures.

Singles finalists Pritchard & Moodalbyle pairing up in the Doubles proved a smart strategy as they won the title with relative ease beating Archie Bult & Jonathan Ewins in the Final.

Lowri Hart & Lucie Whiteman were also too strong a force in the Girls Doubles, defeating Carys Jones & Ceryl Phillips in straight sets in the Final.

In the Mixed Doubles final Pritchard & Hart took on Bult & Whiteman in the Final. Archie & Lucie got off to a great start in the second set but could not sustain it and lost 21-9, 21-16.

The U17 Boys Singles saw a repeat of last seasons final between Oliver Stansfield and Morgan Harding which was once again a great match. Stansfield did well to hold off Harding in the first set, gaining momentum and confidence from this he managed to take the second with a wider margin in scoreline. The boys then paired up in the doubles and defeated Ieuan Phillips & Will Vaughan in the Final.

Lowri Hart played up an age group and competed in the U17 Girls Singles where she put a hard summers training to use and won comfortably

In the Girls Doubles, sisters Katie & Aimie Whiteman combined forces to take the Championship title beating Isobel Adams & Caitlin Rees in the Final. 

Katie Whiteman also took home the Mixed Doubles title with Oliver Stansfield. They defeated Morgan Harding & Abi Cottrill in two sets in the Final.

Only two events ran in the U19 event; Girls Singles and Mixed Doubles. 

In the Girls Singles, Gean Sou Mo continued her Junior Nationals winning streak and beat Megan Pritchard in two sets. Gean then paired up with Joe Cottrill against Megan and James Morris where Cottrill & Mo again won in straight sets.

Performance Manager & National Coach, Matthew Hughes said; "It was an excellent curtain raiser to the upcoming season. It was good to see all of the players in action with numerous impressive performances throughout the day, The event as a whole was a success on and off the courts; I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the players and parents who supported this additional event and look forward to seeing all of the players throughout the season."
