Llanrwst Sports Week in Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy

As the school summer term draws to a close, Badminton Wales Development Officer, Stephanie Marti-Jones has had a busy few weeks working with various schools across Conwy. Last week, Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy in Llanrwst held a huge multi-sport event for the entire school to get involved in.

Each year group were given the opportunity to try many different sports during the day - badminton being one of them. Stephanie, who has worked with the school previously, was invited to deliver fun sessions to the pupils in the school to years 7, 8, 9 and 10. There were around 20 pupils per session with a total of 6 sessions held throughout the day. During the sessions, the children played lots of different games to develop their racket skills, and at the end of each session they competed in a mini-competition. Badminton is a very popular sport in Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy, with many pupils playing at lunch time clubs, so it was a very competitive day for some of the more experienced pupils to showcase their skills. The day was a huge success, and was immensely enjoyed by all involved, pupils and staff alike.

One of the teachers from the Physical Education department stated: “The children in our school love badminton. It is so popular! Next year Badminton is being incorporated in the Physical Education National Curriculum, therefore the school intend to set up an after school club using the BISI Secondary Resource and assistance from the Badminton Wales Development Officer.”
