Events - Gwent WSS

The Gwent tournament of the Welsh Satellite Series was held at the Pontypool Active Living Centre on 13th April.

In the final of the ladies singles Gean Sou Mo played an excellent match to defeat Jacqui Tsang 15-8, 15-13.

In the ladies doubles number one seeds Alice Palmer and Hannah Killick beat scratch pair Amy Pritchard and Helen Stoddart in the final 15-7, 15-6.

The men's singles had the highest standard entry with Mike Kinnear/Chris Pickard/Matt Haynes/Gareth Day/Sam Gorell all winning their groups. Darius Garnham had the win of the round beating Tsung Fong Mo 16-14, 15-7 to top his group.
The knockout stages saw Michael Kinnear beat both the Gorell brothers en route to the final. In the bottom half Tsung played an excellent game losing in three close games to Chris Pickard 9-15, 15-9, 15-10. Chris then had another tight match before losing to Gareth Day.The final saw Gareth victorious against Mike Kinnear in an excellent match winning 21-20, 15-10.

The men's doubles saw some excellent games with Sam & Ben Gorell winning their group closely from Huw John & Chris Short. Mike Kinnear & Ed Jones beat Nic Strange & Wai Lim to win their box while Matt Haynes & Gareth Day took their box. In the final group Oli Hartrey & Chris Jeynes were winners. The Gorells beat Craig Taylor & James Boywer and then lost in the semi-finals to Wai & Nic in one of the games of the day. In the bottom half Ed Jones & Mike Kinnear got through to the final with straight set victories in all their matches. The final was a tense affair with Wai & Nic taking the match in three very close sets 13-15, 16-14, 15-12. 

The mixed doubles was another strong event with top seeds Gean Sou Mo & Tsung Fong Mo winning their group along with Craig Taylor & Helen Stoddart, Sam Gorell & Alice Palmer and Ben Gorell & Amy Pritchard also being box winners. Sam & Alice beat Sam's older brother Ben & Amy in setting 17-15, 17-15 to take their place in the final against Tsung Fong & Gean Sou. Sam & Alice proved too strong for the youngsters in the final winning in two straight games 16-14, 15-9.
