Ebbw Vale hosted the first South Wales event of the season with over fifty players competing in all ages. Trophies were well spread out with winners from Worcester, Pembroke, Powys, Gwent, Glamorgan, Hereford and Avon.

The U11 saw Chloe Barton (Worcester) winning the singles and partnering Maisie Kite ( Pembroke) to make it a double winner in the girls doubles. In the boys event, Arnav Patil (Pembroke) beat Matthew Logan (Glam) in a close and exiting final, whilst Arnav and Maddox Wilcox (Powys) combined to win the doubles.

The U13 boys saw a couple of late withdrawals giving top seed Jonathon Ewins (Gwent) an easier time. He duly won the singles and partnered up with Thomas Barnes (Gwent) to also take the doubles. The girls was a strong event with Bronte Gidons (Hereford) winning the singles, as well as taking the doubles with regular partner Tara Hastings (Hereford).

The U15 boys singles saw some fantastic badminton with the top four seeds progressing to the Semi-Finals. Ewan Price (Gwent) had a titanic struggle with Om Reddy (Avon) before winning in setting, 26-24. In the bottom half Adil Khan (Glam) proved too good on the day for Will Jowett (Glam). The final was nip and tuck with Adil opening up a healthy 8-2 lead before Ewan clawed his way back in to level at 16-16. At the end the greater consistency of Ewan proved too much and he ran out a close winner.

The combined U15/17 girls singles saw Rebecca Williams (U17) beat the two U15 girls with Lauren Edwards winning the U15. Rebecca teamed up with Hannah Douglas to beat Chloe Douglas and Lauren Edwards in the U17 final.

The boys doubles pitched last year’s U13 winners against the scratch pair of Ewan Price and Om Reddy. The scratch pair was too strong however, comfortably winning the final.

The U17 was predictable with Tomos Jones (Pembroke)  beating his partner William Hughes (Pembroke) in the final. They then teamed up to defeat Alex Grayer (Gwent) and Frazer Wilde (Glam) in the final

A great day was had by all and we look forward to hosting the open in November.
