Badminton Wales is excited about taking part in Gemau Cymru, a multi-sport event for the young athletes of Wales. This year it will be held on the weekend of 3-5 July 2015. 

Gemau Cymru Vision

Gemau Cymru is a bilingual signature event for young people in the Welsh sporting calendar enhancing the performance pathway of Olympic, Commonwealth and Paralympic sports. It will provide an opportunity for talented young athletes to compete in a high profile multi-sport event while experiencing an athlete village environment.

What is Gemau Cymru?

Gemau Cymru is a multi-sport event for the young athletes of Wales. This year it will be held on the weekend of 3-5 July 2015 in different locations around Cardiff.  

Gemau Cymru showcases various competitive elements.  All sports will be structured and managed via a close partnership with the relevant Governing Bodies, who will advise on the selection process, structure of the event and the age of competitors.

Below are the sports that are confirmed for Gemau Cymru 2015: 

  •  Athletics
  •  Badminton
  •  Canoeing
  •  Gymnastics
  •  Judo
  •  Netball
  •  Indoor Rowing
  •  Rugby 7s
  •  Table Tennis
  •  Triathlon

Athletes are invited to compete in Gemau Cymru following the selection process advised by the National Governing Bodies. Each athlete will receive a Gemau Cymru invitation pack which will include all the relevant information.

Selection Process

Players were selected on their performances in the Junior National Championships held in Cardiff in March 2015.

Competition Format

There will be 4 teams of 6 players (3 boys and 3 girls). These will be a mixture of U15 and U17 age group players.

Day 1 -  Team Event. The team event will take a round-robin format

Day 2 - Individual Event. The individual event will consist of Boys' and Girls' singles, Boys' and Girls' doubles and Mixed doubles.
