Flintshire 5x60 Competition

On Friday the 22nd of November Flintshire held the 5x60 year 7&8 badminton competition. The day was a fantastic success, with 12 girls teams and 15 boys teams taking part. Eleven out of the twelve Flintshire schools had a team involved with a high standard of play throughout.

The girl's event saw Hawarden, Richard Gwyn and Castell Alun progressing to the next round. The first game took place between Castell Alun and Hawarden, Hawarden narrowly missed out on progressing to the next round and were beaten by Castell Alun 3-2. The final was between Richard Gwyn and Castell Alun. Richard Gwyn proved to be the stronger team and beat Castell Alun 5-0.

The boys round saw Mold Alun take on Castell Alun there were a few close games but Castell Alun proved to be the stronger team winning all five of the games. The final saw Richard Gwyn take on the Castell Alun team, It was a well fought game with Castell Alun taking an early lead but Richard Gwyn proved a tough opponent. They fought back and won 4-1.

I'd like to thank all the players who showed great sportsmanship throughout the day. They all played extremely well. I would also like to thank the staff at all schools for organising the teams and officiating on the day. This year was another big success and we look forward to the finals in March.
