The draw for the European Championships 2016 was announced earlier this week.
The event which will see Europe's best battle it out for to be crowned European Champion will take place from the 26th of April - 1st of May in Nantes, France.

Wales's highest ranked players Daniel Font and Carissa Turner will be competing in both the Singles and Mixed Doubles events together.

Daniel has a Bye in the first round of the Men's Singles but will likely face Sweden's Henri Hurksainen who is ranked 54th in the world and already has a Silver European Championships Medal.

Carissa has drawn Switzerland's Sabrina Jacquet who is ranked 51st in the world. They have played twice before with Jacquet winning on both occasions.

In the Mixed the pair will face current world no.49's David Obernosterer and Elisabeth Baldauf from Austria who have won 6 tournaments in the last year.

Daniel and Carissa began playing Mixed Doubles together in August last year and got off to a good start reaching the Semi Finals at the Eurasia Bulgaria International. Unfortunately Daniel suffered a meniscus tear in the September which he received treatment for late October. After some lengthy rehab work he is back to full fitness and competing again.

Font has traveled to Croatia this week in preparation for the Championships and said; "It's great to be back playing again after a long time off. My Singles draw could have been better but it also could have been much worse. I'll get a chance to do some match analysis which will hopefully give me an edge. It was tense watching the Mixed draw live as we were the last but one pair drawn but I'm looking forward to kicking the tournament off with a win in the Mixed."

Turner, who has not competed since the Nationals said; "I've been back to full training the last few weeks and feel back up to speed. Although I had to withdraw from Romania I had a club match in Switzerland a couple of weeks ago and will have one the weekend before the tournament which is good match practice for me. Both the Singles and Mixed will be tough but are winnable. It will be good to get back on the Mixed court and I'm looking to having a coach there with us."

Performance Manager and National Coach, Matthew Hughes, will be traveling with the duo to this event and feels optimistic about Wales's chances. He said; "For the first round of a European Championships all the draws are fairly reasonable given that neither Dan nor Carissa are seeded. Daniel was down in Cardiff this week and I'm pleased to see he's back to full fitness. It is a good opportunity for them both to perform well on Europe's biggest stage."
