EU17C Reflection

Following the Men's Doubles loss yesterday,
Team Wales returned from Poland this morning.

Joe Cottrill and Andrew Oates faced  Russian pair Georgie Karpov and Mikhail Lavrikov yesterday morning but unfortunately lost 12-21, 14-21.
The Welsh boys dealt well with a last minute change on to a TV Court which the previous day had affected their nerves. The boys played well again and although they did not drop their performance level the Russians experience and strength proved too much.
After beating Joe and Andrew the Russians went on to reach the Quarter Finals and lost narrowly to Irish pair Paul Reynolds and Nhat Nguyen.

Turkeys Busra Unul, who beat Gean has also done very well in the tournament securing herself a medal. She faces Spains, Sara Penalver Pereira who defeated the 2nd seed Dane to reach the Semi Finals.

Performance Director and Coach at the EU17C, Matthew Hughes said:

"Its been an excellent few days for both the players and myself to get a closer look at the current standard of the best U17 talent Europe has to offer. The Championships didn’t disappoint, the standard was very high and provided an insight for our players into the standard and level you need to be if you are going to make the transition towards becoming a top senior international player. I hope the players can build on this experience and apply some of whats been learnt into their own personal development goals."

Gean, Joe and Andrew said that they enjoyed the experience and learnt a lot.
Badminton Wales looks forward to seeing what else our top U17 players will achieve in the future!
