Chair Update - December 2017

Posted by Carissa Turner at 01:12 on 21 December 2017

2017 has been a successful year for Badminton in Wales, made possible by the hard working volunteers working across Wales helping to organise clubs, tournaments, and leagues. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the considerable hours you put in to developing our sport.

The team in Badminton Wales has gone from strength-to-strength with new appointments in Kelly Aston, Head of Operations, Donal O'Halloran, Junior Performance Coach, and Genevieve Tyler, Financial Controller. These appointments have brought new order to Badminton Wales, ensuring we have the foundations to grow exponentially in the forthcoming years. Kelly, Donal, and Genevieve have already made their marks on the sport, and the Board and I have been really impressed with their contributions so far.

Next year we continue to focus on building the player pathway with Matthew Hughes and Angela Stevens working collaboratively with partners across Wales to maximise resources and create new and sustainable opportunities for players to learn the game and reach their potential.

Carissa Turner, has made a huge difference to our social media presence and reach, and this was optimised with the thousands of viewers for the Welsh Open 2017 live streams. Carissa has also worked hard to introduce modern competitions for juniors with great success in 2017 to build on for 2018.

Rob Short and Kelly are working together to launch a new membership system in 2018 which will make our membership system more accessible and provide us with greater insight to who is playing and involved in badminton across Wales. Rob and Matt are also exploring Coach Education enhancements for next year to improve our connections with Badminton World Federation.

It truly is an exciting close to 2017 and I wait with much anticipation on the successes for our sport in 2018.

My last thanks for this year goes to the thousands of parents with players in our system, the commitment really is phenomenal.

Merry Christmas everyone, I wish you all a lovely break.
