Congratulations to Jasmine Owen and Adil Khan who produced two stunning displays to take the Girls Singles and Boys Singles respectively, last weekend at the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes.

Jasmine produced a series of performances characterised by fierce determination and high shot quality to defeat all her opposition. In the group phase she defeated ¾ seed Aditi Bhat in 3 tense sets She followed this great form in beating no. 2 seed Lavigne Leung 21-12 21-19 in the semi-final and then putting in a superb effort to defeat top seed Pranathi Koneru 22-20 19-21-21-19 in a high quality and very physical 34-minute final.

Adil Khan followed up a solid group winning performance with some great victories against Jeremy George in the quarter final and an excellent performance in defeating a towering Joe Howells in the semi-final. He showed nerves of steel to take that match 21-15 25-23. Without doubt his best performance was a high skill level final where he defeated Akshay Narayan with a display of speed and control that was a pleasure to watch, finally winning on a score line of 21-13 21-16.

While these results were the highlight of the weekend, the performances of all the Welsh players were outstanding. Saffron Morris produced a typical athletic and skilful performance in both the singles and doubles without the reward she deserved. Aarthy Aravind showed great potential with a fantastic display of racquet skills, while in the Boys Singles both Dan Kite and Arnav Patil went within a whisker of beating the top seed and runner-up respectively.

Every Welsh player played with pride and a skill level that shows, with continued support and hard work, they are all capable of producing such winning performances. The future of Welsh badminton looks bright.

Congratulations to all.
