Ainsley Richards

Ainsley Richards has won the National Young Volunteer Award of the Year at the Sport Wales annual ceremony.

Ainsley has played junior badminton in South Wales for the past 5 years, at both junior and senior county level for Swansea and West Glamorgan. However, many of you may not be aware that Ainsley has represented Wales in Surfing, presently U21 at County Netball and also runs for the County. Due to her diversity, Ainsley is able to promote and encourage children and young people throughout Wales to take up a range of sports, (particularly Badminton ) hopefully inspiring them to gain the same benefit from sports participation as she has!  Ainsley is a Platinum Young Ambassador for sport and is chair of the Welsh Steering group, she has spoken at the Sport Wales Stakeholder’s conference this year and also at the PESS Head of PE conference this summer and was also part of the Badminton Wales volunteers at the Olympics.

Ainsley has achieved her UKCC level 1 in Badminton and is keen to take her UKCC level 2 , she volunteers at schools, junior club and county.

Ainsley is also a member of the UK  YA steering group of the Youth Sport Trust and has recently been identified as one of a group of Young Sports people throughout the UK who will be trained as part of the post Olympic ‘Future UK Sport Leaders’ . The programme identified young inspirational people who will be responsible for continuing the Youth Sport Trust legacy by promoting sport throughout the UK.

Ainsley considers this a huge privilege.

Eddie O Neill commented

"Ainsley is a star, such a joyous and enthusiastic young lady, she really deserves this accolade and I'm thrilled that she is involved so much with Badminton."
