Day 3 of the Yonex Welsh International and the round of 16 followed by the quarter finals.

HP Banner - Jordan Hart 2

In the Women’s Singles, 2 further fine wins, both in straight sets, by Wales’ Jordan Hart (pictured above) over England’s Emily Beach and France’s Yaelle Hoyaux swept her into the semi-finals where she will meet the No 1 seed, India’s Tanvi Lad, victor over Latvia’s Monika Radovska and France’s Manon Krieger. After reaching the final in the recent Polish International before being edged out by Switzerland’s Ayla Huser, Jordan will now be hoping to go one better in her home tournament. In the other half of the draw No 2 seed, England’s Georgina Bland, was downed by her compatriot Abigail Holden in 2 close sets 21-18, 21-18 who will now play the No 7 seed, France’s Marie Batomene, for a place in the final.

HP Banner - Sam Parsons 2

In the Men’s Singles, England’s Johnnie Torjussen’s run was ended by No 1 seed Sam Parsons (pictured above) who then went on to beat Frances’s Vincent Medina both in 2 sets. Sam’s opponent in the semi-final will be qualifier, India’s R.M.V. Gurusaidutt, who was victorious against fellow Indian player Sahil Sipani 21-19 in the deciding set and then against Scotland’s Ben Torrance, again in 3 sets. The No 7 seed, Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen (pictured below), maintained his fine form with victory over qualifier Adrian Dziolko from Poland and then India’s Karan Rajan Rajarajan, who unfortunately had to retire towards the end of the 1st set. Nhat will now play qualifier, Denmark’s Soren Hald, who moved into the semis with 3 set victories over England’s Luke Pearce and France’s Leo Rossi.

In the Men’s Doubles Polish qualifiers, Pawel Smilowski & Przemyslaw Syzdlowski, were victorious over Denmark’s Emil Lauritzen & Mads Muurholm but were then toppled by the No 6 seeds, England’s Oliver Baczala & Michael Roe, who will now face Denmark’s Soren Hald & Oliver Thomsen. No 2 seeds, France’s Eloi Adam & Samy Corvee moved into the semis with victories over Scotland’s Matthew Carder & Ben Torrance and Norway’s Magnus Christensen & Fredrik Kristensen. They will now play the 4th seeded Irish pairing of Nhat Nguyen & Paul Reynolds.

In the Women’s Doubles, the run of England’s Evie Burbidge & Elizabeth McMorrow, was brought to an end in the quarters by the 6th seeds, Poland’s Kornelia Marczak & Magdalena Witek, who will now face 4th seeds, Ireland’s Sara Boyle & Rachael Darragh. England’s Jess Hopton & Atu Rosalina continued their run to the semis where they will play Belgium’s Lise Jaques & Flore Vandenhoucke, seeded 2, who progressed after beating qualifiers, Denmark’s Cille Nielsen & Jenni Olsen, and England’s Georgina Bland & Meera Sivakumaran.

Top seeds in the Mixed Doubles, Norway’s Fredrik Kristensen & Solvar Flaten Jorgensen, moved into the semis but only after a very tight quarter-final against France’s Adam & Vimala Heriau, eventually closing out the match 25-23 in the final set. They will now play Denmark’s Soren Toft Hansen & Pernille Bundgaard for a place in the final. The other semi-final is a fascinating all English affair between Oliver Baczala & Natasha Lado and Michael Roe & Jess Hopton.

Today we have the semi-finals starting at 10am followed by the finals at 3pm and all Welsh fans will be hoping that Jordan Hart can progress to the winner's podium this time around.
