Day 3 of the tournament and the round of 16 followed by the quarter finals.

In the Women’s Singles Jordan Hart’s superb run came to an end in the quarter finals. After another excellent performance and victory over Sweden’s Ella Soderstrom after a nail-biting 2nd set 21-13, 27-25 she then met Germany’s Fabienne Deprez but went down in 2 very close sets 20-22, 16-21. However it was a great week for Jordan which will stand her in great stead for future tournaments.

No. 7 seed Fabienne will now meet Spain’s Beatriz Corrales who had a massive scare in the round of 16 before squeezing through 30-29, 21-19 against Malaysia’s Li Yian Yang and then was victorious over Canada’s Rachel Honderich who herself had earlier put out 6th seed Fontaine Chapman.  In the other semi-final 3rd seed Sabrina Jaquet, after victories over Grace King (ENG) and Soraya De Visch Eijbergen (NED), will meet Chinese Taipei’s Shuo Yun Sung who defeated no. 2 seed India’s Tanvi Lad 21-18, 21-12 in the quarters.

In the Men’s Singles the no.1 seed Jen Hao Hsu (TPE) was beaten by Germany’s Kai Schaefer (22-24, 18-21), who then went on to defeat Scotland’s Matthew Carder to reach the semis. Here he will face 2 time previous winner and no. 3 seed Pablo Abian (ESP) who came through after victories over Vilson Vattanirappel (AUT) and Rhys Walker (ENG).

Two other previous winners, Vladimir Malkov (RUS) and Kieran Merrilees (SCO) will meet in the other semi. In the quarters Malkov defeated Teck Zhi Soo (MAS) who had beaten no. 2 seed Brice Leverdez (FRA) in the round of 16 and Merrilees had good victories over Nick Fransman (NED) and Ching-Hung Kuo (TPE).  

In the Men’s Doubles the English/Scottish pairing of Peter Mills & Adam Hall continued their good form from the Scottish Open last week to move into the semis with victories over 2 Scottish pairs, Christopher & Matthew Grimley and Martin Campbell & Patrick Machugh. They will meet Min Chun Liao & Cheng Heng Su (TPE) who beat France’s Ronan Labar & Gaetan Mittelheisser, previous victors over the no. 2 seeds Matt Nottingham & Harley Towler earlier in the week. In the other semi the no.6 seeds Jishnu Sanyal & Shivam Sharva (IND) will play another Chinese Taipei pair, the no. 3 seeds Kuan Hao Liao & Chia Pin Lu. 

In the Women’s doubles top seeds Anastasia Chervyakova & Olga Morozova (RUS) moved safely through and will now play Malaysia’s Yin Loo Lim & Cheng Wen Yap for a place in the final. England’s Sophie Brown & Lauren Smith continued their excellent form in the tournament and advanced to the semis where they will play Ashwani Ponnappa & N. Sikki Reddy (IND) who put out no. 3 seeds Jenny Moore & Victoria Williams (ENG) in the quarters.

The top 2 seeds in the Mixed Doubles , Robert Mateusiak & Nadiezda Zieba (POL) and Pranav Jerry Chopra & N.Sikki Reddy (IND), advanced to the semis where they will meet Chia Pin Lu & Shuo Yun Sung (TPE) and Soon Huat Goh & Shevon Jemie Lai (MAS) respectively. 

Today sees the semi finals starting at 10am followed by the finals starting at 5pm.
