2016 Yonex Welsh International - Day 2

In the Women’s Singles Wales’ Jordan Hart produced a stunning performance to put out no. 4 seed and 2 time Olympian Lianne Tan 22-20, 21-14 describing it as the best win of her career to date. Unfortunately Wales’ Aimee Moran was not able to progress, having to retire in the 2nd set against Chinese Taipei’s Shuo Yun Sung as she was feeling unwell. The top 3 seeds, Beatriz Corrales, Tanvi Lad and Sabrina Jaquet all moved through although Lad had a scare against England’s Lydia Jane Powell, dropping the 2nd set after a very close 1st set before taking control in the 3rd to win 21-19, 20-22, 21-11.

There was an upset in the Men’s Doubles with the no. 2 seeds Matt Nottingham & Harley Towler being beaten by France’s Ronan Labar & Gaetan Mittelheisser in 3 close sets 21-18, 17-21, 21-16. All the other seeded pairs moved safely through with 2 set victories.
