2016 Yonex Welsh International - Day 1

In the Men’s Singles Daniel Font is the last Welsh man standing, battling through to today’s 3rd qualifying round after 2 straight set victories. First up he defeated England’s Heng Lin Ngan 24-22, 21-14 and followed that up with victory over England’s Johnnie Torjussen, the U17 European champs silver medallist, 21-10, 21-11. Today Font meets England’s Joel Douse and will be determined to reach the main draw.

HP Banner - Will Kitching

After a good win in the first round against England’s Josh Young 21-18, 21-15, Will Kitching, despite a great comeback in the 2nd set, lost his 2nd round match against Ireland’s Mark Brady 7-21, 22-20, 12-21. There was no joy for the other Welsh hopefuls as Tsung Fong Mo, Andrew Jones, Scott Oates and Andrew Oates all went out in the 1st round.

In the Women’s Singles Gean Sou Mo was unable to progress losing out to England’s Kerri Scott 15-21, 15-21.
