Saturday 13th February saw the 7th Welsh Masters Badminton Championships take place at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff. This annual veterans tournament saw a massive 7 age groups competing, which makes ‘The Masters’ one of the largest tournaments on the Welsh calendar. With such a large entry and so many competitive matches taking place on just one day, play ran on well into Saturday evening. It was fantastic to see so many new entrants at the event, and especially exciting to see several of these new faces wearing medals by the end of the competition. Some of these first time winners include:

  • Vaughn Tovey, who won the 35+ and 40+ men's singles.
  • Helen Williams-Couch, who took her first Welsh title at 35+ women's singles.
  • Andrew Kitching, who won 45+ men's singles.
  • Jeff Reynolds, who came up trumps in the 35+ men's and mixed doubles.
  • Ex International player Chris Rees, who won an impressive 3 titles.
