The Badminton Wales Junior Open Plus took place on Saturday 15th/Sunday 16th December 2012 at the Flash Leisure Centre, Welshpool. With £300 prize money and the best junior players in the country competing, it was an excellent weekend of badminton.

In the Under 13 event, Oliver Stansfield won all 3 titles on offer. Oliver defeated Tomos Sudder in a tight 3 set final in the Boys Singles winning 12/15 18/16 15/9. Partnering Elliot Simmonds they then went on to defeat Jac Clarke and Tomos Sudder 15/9 15/6. In the mixed doubles Oliver partnered Katie Whiteman, and they had no problems picking up the title. They defeated Elliot Simmonds and Rhea Hemmadi 15/7 15/5. In the girls doubles Erin Rees and Rhea Hemmadi took the title defeating Steph Gardner and Megan Ward. Katie Whiteman added the U13 girl’s singles title to her name defeating Rhea Hemmadi 15/10 15/5 in the final.

1st seed Scott Oates won the U15 boys singles defeating younger brother Andrew Oates in another nail biting final winning 15/12 18/20 15/7. Due to illness both seeded players had to withdraw from the U15 girls singles. Anisha De Silver then went on to lift the title defeating Niharika Singh in the final. Younger brother Andrew Oates had revenge on his singles loss to brother Scott by picking up the doubles title. Andrew partnered Joe Cottrill and they defeated Scott Oates and Dhruv Bansal 15/11 15/17 15/9. Megan Rowlands and Bethan Sudder won the girls doubles title with Anisha De Silver and Saskia Davies finishing in 2nd place. Andrew Oates and Bethan Sudder had no problems en route to lifting the mixed title. James Morris and Megan Pritchard finished runners-up.

Unseeded Sophie Arrighi defeated both seeded players on route to taking the U17 girls singles title. Sophie defeated 1st seed and doubles partner Kelly Saunders at the semi-final stage. Then after losing to Gean Sou Mo in the box Sophie had the upper hand in the final winning 15/13 15/10. Matthew Vacher showed good form by taking the U17 boys singles title. Matthew defeated Tsung Fong Mo 15-12 15-6. Mo got his revenge by picking up the mixed doubles title partnering sister Gean Sou. They defeated Vacher and Emilie Gwilt 11/15 15/10 15/10. Vacher and Stewart took the U17 boys doubles title with Emilie Gwilt and U15 girls singles winner Anisha De Silver picking up the U17 girls doubles title.
