Sam Alice - 2012 Swansea WSS

Sam Gorell and Alice Palmer won the doubles and mixed titles at the Swansea ICE WSS last weekend. In the mixed doubles final they defeated Matthew Haynes and Amy Pritchard 15/9 15/6. Haynes and Pritchard knocked out the no1 seeds Tsung Fong Mo and Gean Sou Mo in an epic semi-final encounter winning the 3rd and decisive game 21/19.

In the men’s doubles Sam partnered brother Ben to lift the men’s doubles title. They defeated Oliver Hartery and Chris Jeynes in the final 15/13 15/10. Hartery and Jeynes had a good run to the final defeating Darius Garnham / Andrew Ashburner and the recent YC men’s doubles winners Gareth Day and Matthew Haynes at the semi-final stage.

Alice Palmer and Phillipa Rogers took the ladies doubles title defeating top junior pair Kelly Saunders and Sophie Arrighi 15/7 15/9. Saunders and Arrighi had a good win in the semi-finals defeating the experienced pair of Helen Stoddart and Sophie Ttophi.

Kelly Saunders got revenge for her recent loss to Gean Sou Mo at the YC WSS by not dropping a game and taking the ladies singles title. Kelly defeated Gean 15/12 15/9 and also defeated doubles partner Arrighi 15/13 15/13 en route to lifting the title.

Michael Kinnear made it 3 wins from 3 picking up the men’s singles title. The recent YC and Jim Wiseman WSS men’s singles winner added the Swansea ICE WSS title to his name and will be firm favourite to pick up the £100 prize money for the highest ranked men’s singles player come the end of the season. In the final Mike defeated Chris Pickard in 3 games 9/15 15/8 15/9. Mike also had good wins against Gareth Day and Sam Gorell in the earlier rounds.
